A Huge Breakthrough In AI

AI is pretty hyped, so we're deliberate when we say there's been a breakthrough. Today, your main AI options are ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, CoPilot, Llama and Grok. These are all “closed source”, meaning you don’t get to see their inner workings, nor can you change them to suit your needs. The software code is locked down by its owner.
A couple of weeks ago, Kimi K2.5 was released. At Ember Technology, we’ve been waiting for something like this for a year now.
Kimi K2.5 already outperforms some of the other AI products and can process big files quickly, e.g. documents, datasets, images, video, and software code.
It allows you to develop up to 100 autonomous ‘agents’. Think of an agent as an employee who can problem-solve as well as merely answering your questions.
But most exciting is that Kimi K2.5 is “open source”, meaning the software code is publicly available for anyone to view, use, modify and share. Why is this so important? It means you can take the code and put it on your internal IT network and lock it down so that your data doesn’t travel off in cyberspace. It makes your data more secure.
There are also cost advantages to hosting Kimi K2.5 on your own network compared to the expense of the usual products.
There are downsides to watch, though. Kimi K2.5 was originally developed in China, and the Western world is suspicious of hidden back doors within the software code. However, being open source, any vulnerabilities are likely to be picked up quickly and patched.
Kimi K2.5 could be adopted by any sized organisation, but is probably best for those who wish to make AI central to their business strategy.
The Ember Technology team will happily discuss how AI can create a business advantage and which tools are best, including Kimi K2.5.
