Meet The Team

Andrew Reed
Cybersecurity
Andrew first joined Ember in 2020, back when it was i.t.online, spending close to four years here as a systems engineer, owning the company's security posture, writing its policy set and taking it through its SOC 2 Type 1 audit. From Ember he moved to the University of Canterbury as a senior cyber security engineer, was promoted to enterprise security architect, and then to the University of Otago as Senior Manager of Assurance and Continuity. Andrew returned in August 2026 to work alongside the cyber security team across the client portfolio, having covered close to the full range of security roles along the way: engineering, architecture, consulting, assurance and leadership.
The work spans client security assessments, framework programmes such as HISF, NIST CSF and SMB1001, monthly and board level reporting, and responding when something goes wrong. That breadth is the strength: joining the technical detail to the business picture, and being equally at home writing a KQL query and explaining to a board what the answer means.
Outside work, Andrew builds software and tinkers with cloud labs, and is deep into how AI can be used across every part of cyber security, with just as much focus on using it securely as on making the most of it. Most of the rest of the time goes to three daughters: board games and video games, skateboarding and rollerskating, camping as a family, and a garden that grows a good share of their own vegetables and plants.
